Behind the scenes
Christmas Day trip
9 Dec 2022
Every year we take a day out (or more when we can) to get into the Christmas spirit. Working from home and always gigging together as just the two of us, it’s easy to let Christmas slip us by and just keep on working. This year we tied our trip in with our gig in Bracknell at The Acoustic Couch. After the gig we stayed in a Travelodge in Frimley (I know! Posh) then had a full vegan breakfast in Morrisons (if there’s no Bill’s nearby, a Morrisons does a reasonable second) before travelling down to Brighton.
We’re big fans of Audible and are currently listening to a Strike novel by Robert Galbraith (aka J K Rowling) which makes the miles fly by!
In Brighton we made our way to the North Lanes and found Snooper’s Paradise, an amazing collection of antiques, bric a brac, vintage stuff, art and other stuff. It is amazing! We could honestly have spent all day there. But it had been a long while since breakfast so we headed to Wagamama. Ooh, the vegan selection of food is wonderful. Charlie looked after us – he’s worked there for just 8 weeks and already knows the order number of every item on the menu!
With overly full bellies we walked down to the pier through the southern Lanes (loads and loads of high end jewellery shops – they’ve certainly lost their charm) and had to resist the urge to buy freshly cooked donuts. Oh the smell is almost irresistible. We would literally have burst! It was freezing cold but there were staff all over the pier, keeping it running for the few hardy visitors, including one hilariously enthusiastic couple on one of the scary high spinning rides. Their laughter, screams and shrieks spread smiles to all around.
Leaving the pier behind we wandered back up The Old Steine towards the Christmas market, which sported the usual stalls you find in every Christmas market – a bit like having Boots and H&M in every High Street. Christmassy but uninspiring.
Next stop was Shoreham Harbour – ah the romance of cargo ships and fishing boats coming into port! Wrapped up in scarves, hats, gloves and lots of layers, we made our way over the lock gates and enjoyed hot chocolate in the Port Kitchen café. Next stop Newhaven then on to Seaford in search of some Christmas lights.
All in all, a lovely festive day out topped off by watching Elf when we got home with a glass of wine by the fairy lights of our Christmas tree.
