Bluebell Roots News

Hope everyone enjoyed the March Bluebell Roots show if you were there. There’s a video of Joe Topping doing his version of Little Red Rooster on our Facebook page. There was a little tear in the eye as we said goodbye to the kitchen but smiles now because we’re moving on to our new home at Arlington Hall from April.

Now is also the time for you to help us out a little by encouraging more of your friends to come along to our friendly event – we’ll have room for around twice as many people, and because we’ll have increased outlay for the hall hire, we need to make sure we book out all the places, every time. Remember, we’re now on the first Sunday of each month (except for June’s event, which will be on the last Sunday of May – confused? So are we!)

If you’re not already signed up, send us your email so we can add you to the mailing list for the most detailed updates of future events. It’s not often but will be the primary way we contact our audience ongoing.

Here’s what’s staying the same:

  • We won’t be making any change to the suggested donation of £12 per person, and we still want to operate this on a ‘pay what you can afford’ basis, by passing the hat, so we won’t exclude anyone on the basis of affordability
  • Philippa, Michael and Marylin will still be cooking for us (we know that’s why you really come along) so you will continue to be well fed! (make sure you book your meal in advance, pay £12.50 on the night)
  • It will still be BYOB – and of course we’ll still ask you to take home your empties!
  • We’re keeping the ‘refectory’ seating arrangement, so you can get to know who you’re sitting with
  • The booking process will remain the same for audience places, and for booking floor spots

Here’s whats different:

  • The venue is bigger – we’ll need more people to make the atmosphere cosy like the kitchen, so we’d love you to bring some friends
  • You might also like to bring plates, cutlery and glasses so that nobody has to wash up 30-60 place settings after everyone has left!

Your regular hosts, Milton Hide open and close the evening and Neil Povey MCs and does sound. There will also be wonderful floor performers. Please email info@bluebellroots.co.uk if you would like to play.

We wish to create an environment where everyone feels respected, valued and safe. We encourage our performers to consider this when choosing which material to perform and ask our audiences to respect the performers.
