The date is set as 19th April for the release of Bungaroosh. On that day we are playing a triple header at the Hailsham Pavilion so that will be the first chance to get your hands on a copy (unless you’ve pre-ordered).
This has been a long time in the planning, recording and production. One of the tracks was recorded in the front room of a friend’s house in New Brighton (Wirral), most of the others were recorded in our home studio in Wilmington before being handed over to John to weave his magic. We gave him brief notes about the sort of sounded we wanted for each track and demos. Being called Bungaroosh, it’s a complete mix of styles so he didn’t have an easy task.
Our two previous albums, Temperature’s Rising and The Holloway, were quite different from each other – the first having lots of additional instrumentation with some full band numbers, the next being stripped back and more like a Milton Hide duo live performance. For Bungaroosh we wanted a mix of the two. Phil Jones, Bruce Knapp and John Fowler have all added instrumentation to some tracks, John adding many instruments! But some of them are pure and simple Milton Hide. And we love all of them. There are gentle and heartbreaking songs alongside stomping, fist-pumping numbers. Folk songs sit alongside ragtime, Americana, ballads and rock. Honestly, you couldn’t have a more diverse mix of material on one album. It’s 13 tracks but keep listening to the end…;-)
Although we are not holding a specific Bungaroosh launch event, we are officially releasing the album at the Hailsham Pavilion gig on 19th April. Then at the end of the Album Tour we will hold a full band big Bungaroosh celebration gig in October (date TBA).
19th April, Folk Night at Hailsham Pavilion. Triple headline event with Milton Hide, The Kimberleys and Daria Kulesh. Tickets £15 from hailshampavilion.co.uk
