We were pleased to work with Tide Mills Choir for our final concert of the ‘Your Stories In Song’ project. Our friend Claire had put us in touch with Ellen, the choir leader, and we exchanged emails about how we could write a song for the choir to perform. The choir members sent us a list of thoughts and words about what the choir means to them all personally and what their experiences have been singing with the choir. The imagery they created with their words made it fairly easy to write the lyrics once we’d decided which direction to go in. Jim created the melody and we worked hard on adapting the song, called Time and Tide, for a choral piece, leaving all of the vocal arrangements to Ellen. We had one rehearsal with the choir in the run up to the concert. It was amazing to stand in the room, surrounded by people singing our song and creating beautiful harmonies. It sent shivers down our spines!
The concert at the Hillcrest Centre in Newhaven was on 30th November 2024 and profits from the tickets sold and from a raffle were donated to the charity, Mind. It was a concert of 2 halves – Tide Mills Choir lead by Ellen sang a gorgeous set in the first half, then we sang a range of our story-based songs in the second half. We ended the evening with a joint performance of Time and Tide – you can watch the performance on Youtube HERE.
Neil Povey was our sound guy for the evening and he did a fantastic job, not only with the live sound but recording the whole evening so we have some live audio tracks.
