It was a scamper to get ready to leave for Bluebell Roots, having got back from Bridport at 4.30pm. But we know what a lovely evening we’ll have every time so it was no hardship and it’s only a five minute drive from home. Chris and Dan, The Long Shorts, were already there having a practice in the barn when we arrived so I stayed and had a chat with them while Jim and Neil got the PA set up. Each of the floor spots did 3 songs including us, 2 of them with our mate Jade. We played Vegan Recipe For Love, the song we had written for Billy and Sophia’s wedding. As usual the food cooked by Philippa was delicious and most people went up for seconds. We had a slightly smaller audience than last month so had to top up the hat from the kitty leaving us not quite enough to cover the PRS licence.
After folks had left we set up the podcast again and interviewed Chris and Dan. They play up-tempo pretty rocky numbers so not the Bluebell Roots usual but wonderful for being different and energetic and they went down really well. They’ve got a particularly good sing along one with easy to remember lyrics of na na na na. We know Chris through the Live at Thornsett Road house concerts and events and he a is a huge supporter of grass roots music so it was great to chat to him about that. After packing up we went home for a hot drink and straight to bed in a real bed.
